2012 was a big year for me. Although I'm always learning, improving, and trying new techniques, 2012 is the year I learned that vision and inspiration come from within. Working in television news and showing some of the saddest news stories of the year has made me realize how important it is to cherish every moment with family and friends. Because of this, I'm thankful for photography. When I look back at some of my favourite images from 2012 (professional and otherwise) I see how beautiful life is and the importance of documenting its beauty. One of my goals for 2012 was to "make memories" with my children and I'm thankful to have captured many of these happy times through photography. I'm also thankful to have captured some teary and crying faces, because I know ten years from now, these will be some of my favourite photos to look at.
Last night, we rang in the new year the same way we have for the last SIXTEEN years - with the same core group of friends... Two of those friends are Bryan and Shannon, who are featured in this blog. It's hard to believe that we've all been together for so long... our group dynamic is quite simple and yet complicated at the same time. Here goes my best attempt:
Public School - sometime in the 80s: 4 boys meet and become epic friends.
High School - sometime in the 90s: Boy #1 (Bryan) starts dating Girl #1 (Shannon). Boy #2 (Scott) starts dating Girl #2 (ME). Girl #2 happens to be good friends with Girl #1. By association Girl #1 and Girl #2 become friends with Boys #3 and #4. Add Boy #5 to the mix.... he starts dating Girl #3. Girl #3 happens to be good friends with Girl #4 who starts dating Boy #3. Boy #4 meets Girl #5 after high school... All the boys marry their girls... add a couple more boys and girls to the mix and the rest is history. In other words, we've all been friends for a really long time.
I can't think of a better way to start my 2013 blogroll than with a beautiful winter maternity session featuring Boy #1 and Girl #1 (see above if you initially skipped that confusing mess of writing). I was at the February 10th Semi-Formal in high school that started it all for these two. Bryan and Shannon were in our wedding party, and vise versa. Shannon is my oldest daughter's godmother, and was one of the first of my friends to hold my daughters in the hospital. And now, I can't wait to hold their first born SON! That's right... I'm calling it. They don't know the sex of their baby and we'll find out for sure later this month.
As I look ahead to 2013, I see endless possibilities. On a personal level, three of our closest friends are expecting babies this year and I'm going to be an aunt for the first time in July! On a professional level, I have a clear vision of what I want to do in 2013 and where I want my business to go. I'm thankful for your continued support and excited to continue working with you - my amazing friends and clients.
Happy New Year everybody!
